1. The WordPress Media Library

The WordPress media library is a central place where you can store, manage, and access all the media files that you upload to your WordPress website, such as images, videos, audio, and documents.

You can access the WordPress media library from the dashboard by clicking on Media in the left sidebar.

Alternatively, you can access the WordPress media library from the block editor by clicking on the Add Media button in the top left corner of the screen.

The WordPress media library allows you to perform various actions on your media files, such as:

  • Upload new media files from your computer or from a URL
  • Edit existing media files, such as crop, rotate, resize, or add captions and alt text
  • Delete unwanted media files
  • Search and filter media files by date, type, or keyword
  • View and edit the details and settings of each media file, such as title, description, URL, size, etc.

1. Uploading Images

Uploading images to your WordPress website is easy and can be done in two ways: from the WordPress media library or from the block editor.

Here are the steps to follow for each method:

From the WordPress Media Library

  • Go to the WordPress media library by clicking on Media in the dashboard sidebar
  • Click on the Add New button at the top of the screen
  • You will see a drag and drop area where you can drop your image files, or you can click on the Select Files button to browse and select your image files from your computer
  • You can also click on the Add New button again to open a new tab where you can enter a URL of an image that you want to upload from the web
  • Once you have uploaded your image files, you will see them in the media library, where you can edit or delete them as you wish

From the Block Editor

  • Open the page or post where you want to add an image, or create a new one
  • Click on the + icon in the top left corner of the screen, or in the content area where you want to insert the image, to open the block menu
  • Under the Media category, select the Image block. Alternatively, you can type /image in the content area and press Enter to add the Image block
  • You will see a placeholder for the image, with two buttons: Upload and Media Library. You can either upload an image from your computer, or select an image from your media library. You can also drag and drop an image file into the placeholder
  • Once you have added the image, you can adjust its settings and options in the block toolbar and the sidebar

You can also use other blocks to add images to your WordPress page or post, such as the Gallery block, the Cover block, the Media & Text block, or the Image Compare block. You can find these blocks under the Media category in the block menu, or you can type their names in the content area and press Enter to add them.
